New Name-Same HTTP

Today, I changed the name of my blog to reflect my grade level next year--Learn with Me in Grade Three is my blogs new name. Watch for lots of third grade reveals!

Summer-and a change

I told myself and my little family that I would not think about school much this summer. Well, we went to the library today. I checked out kids books (Social Studies and Science topics) to make some new games. SO, I will be working on those, but mainly I will be going to the pool, going to the library, and oh yeah-My family and my sister's family are going to Orlando and on a Disney Cruise.

This month (probably tomorrow) I will be changing my blog's name as I will be teaching third grade next year. It is bittersweet, but I can tackle this challenge as I am needed in upper grades due to my test scores and being a "strong" teacher ( btw-I have taught third and fifth-well a variety of grade levels)! I am even (a teensy, weensy bit) somewhat excited. So stayed tuned for lots of changes in blogland.

Market Day

When we have learned about the economy-Don't Laugh-in first grade terms. That means we have made a t-chart using magazines and labels after discussing wants and needs. Then, we compared and contrasted producers and consumers making a Venn-Diagram and listing examples of each.  We also reviewed how money came into existence. I ha(Too bad I have not taken my camera to school since Mother's Day-need to pack tomorrow for End Of Year Fun during the last 8 days!). In the mean time,  most students (as homework) have produced (made) things that they are going to sell to other first graders (consumers). Pictures are student's markets.

Rain Forest, Rain Forest What Do You See?

     Rainforest Projects are completed and shared! The students did an AMAZING job! I am so proud of them. Here are a few:

Our culminating activities included sharing our research, acting out Jan Brett's, The Umbrella.
I used the masks on Jan Brett's website. (Side note-When we act out using "masks", I laminate and make necklaces for the students to wear instead OR attach the masks to paint stirrers that I get free from Home Depot.) We completed the L part of the KWL chart and was I impressed! I promised to make "Rain Forest" cookies (recipe found in the book, The Rainforest Grew All Around) this weekend for us to have on Monday. This will be another opportunity to discuss foods that come from the rain forest reinforcing the need to Save our Earth everyday-everywhere.

My VERY FIRST game!

I told myself that I was going to create a game in March or April. Well, I did it! I have a very busy schedule with three young children, a wonderful husband, a first grade classroom, and life. Anyway, here it is. All you need to do is add a die, players cubes, and a couple of students. Thank you to my friend for all her help in answering my silly questions and encouragement. (You know who you are!)
